Mr Wayne Bennett OAM AM

Master coach Wayne Bennett guided the Brisbane Broncos through their first 21 seasons from 1988-2008, winning six premierships in 1992, 93, 87, 98, 2000, 06. A Queensland winger in 1971-73 originally from Toowoomba, he coached the Maroons in seven Origin series in 1986-88, 1998 and 2001-03 for a 12-9 win/loss record and five series wins. He also coached Australia 14 times in 1998 and 2004-05. A man who always did it his way, often shunning the media but always loving the game, he was named Coach of the Queensland Team of the Century in 2008 and caused an uproar when helped coach New Zealand to the 2008 World Cup before taking charge of St.George/Illawarra from 2009-10 and then with Newcastle Knights from 2011.
